Guest Jimbos Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 hello all,New father of a 2001 Galaxy and loving it !! Apart from a very irritating fault, I really hope someone may be able to help with ? We are having problems with the inteior lights to the rear door area - they will not turn off unless the door is severley slammed shut - I have had to slam and kick the door to ensure the light go out - it looks to me like the 'keeper' of catch may be set to far back therefore the door has to be slammed to ensure the lights go out ? It may be a minor point but if we dont remember to look every day the risk is that we have a flat battery ! As we all know there are a miriad of interior lights to the galaxy - and all of them have switches - but for the life of me i cannot find them for the rear baggage area ? I'd be most grateful for anyones help and assistance. Regards, Jim  Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Someone jump in here if it's different on the MK II - I'm very poor and only have a MK I ! The Interior light switch is next to the lock mechanism, to get to it you have to take the interior trim off. Have you got an hanes manual? It's got the instructions to remove all the bits in there. Quite easy to do, you'll be lucky if you dont manage to brake some of the pesky clips off though. Does it actually lock but the light stays on? Steven Quote
Guest Jimbos Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Thanks steve, No I dont have a Hanes manual - could be a bit costly if i only want to access a switch ?I have notice a bit of a whirring noise from the boot door as i open it - could it be related ? If i close the door normally - it's as if the door is not closed properly and the lights stay on - if i slam it and press with my foot the door edge appears to almost touch the main body (very little clearance) but the door closes firmly and the lights in the boot finally go out ! Perhaps if i adjust the hook thingy in the boot floor - but would that correct the lights - which only go out when the door is closed tight ? Many thanks for the help/suggestions. jim Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 Jim The whirring noise is the catch opening, there is no mechanical link betreen the handle and the mechanisme. the mech is operated with a solenoid and the handle operates a microswitch. I tend to think that adjusting the hook in the floor wont make any difference, apart from making the door difficult to shut. It was a while since I did mine, but it sounds like the switch that activates the lights is maybe bent or has moved a little. Go on get a Haynes manual - it is required bedtime reading for all members of this site! If your that tight though  I can scan the pages you want and email them. Steven Quote
Guest vr6galaxy Posted October 24, 2005 Report Posted October 24, 2005 This has been covered before! IIRC the cure was to adjust the latch n the floor of the car to allow it to locate futher into the lock and trip the switch, you are doing this at the moment by standing/slamming the hatch  you could try flipping the lock when the hatch is open and seeing if it switches off the lights then? if it does then you know the switch is ok it's just out of adjustment on the latch! has someone tripped the latched and tried shutting the hatch? this could have shifted the latch and be the cause of your problem? Masked Marauder Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 You are waiting for the timer to expire? When I got my Bammer I took the bulbs out until I could sort the problem out, only to find that I was not waiting long enough for the timer to cut out. Quote
soptom Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 The "boot" lights aren't on a timer, are they? Quote
johnb80 Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 On my Gal if interior lights are left on by a door being opened, they all switch off after 10 minutes. All the other interior lights stay on for about 30 seconds after closing the door(s) if the ignition is off, if the ignition is on they go off immediately. Finally, when the interior lights are on with doors closed during the timer period, locking the doors puts the lights out straight away. Hope this helps - JB Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted October 25, 2005 Report Posted October 25, 2005 Interior lights are on a timer if the car is unlocked, but if you lock it on leaving, the lights should all go out immediately. (unless you have switched them to permanently on, of course). Sounds like you need to make an adjustment, as detailed above. Quote
